Do You Qualify For Extra Help in Paying for Prescription Drugs?
Medicare beneficiaries with limited incomes will soon be able to find out whether they qualify for substantial extra help in paying for prescription drugs after the new drug benefit goes into effect on Jan. 1. As that date approaches, all beneficiaries—except those with good retiree drug coverage—will have to start making decisions about signing up for the benefit. (Information on coverage options will be available in October. Open enrollment runs from Nov. 15, 2005, to May 15, 2006.) But for people with limited incomes, the first part of that process begins now, so they’ll know well in advance if they qualify for the extra help.
