Meet Barry Rand
Barry Rand looks at life through a very wide lens. And in his role as AARP's new CEO, his field of vision extends far beyond the organization. He follows AARP founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus's credo: "What we do, we do for all." The American Dream, he says, is about inclusion, and the foundation for that dream is affordable, high-quality health care and financial security. When we successfully support specific health or financial issues for all Americans, he says, the results also benefit Latinos.

And AARP's efforts such as Create the Good reflect a tradition of volunteerism and community building that matches perfectly with the direction our country is taking. He considers both a part of the organization's DNA and believes that through them we can serve as "one of the finest examples in terms of what we do and how we do it."

He sees his new role as "probably the most important contribution that I could make as an individual." Yet, "The only way we're going to make it is to hold hands and move forward together," Rand says. "Our strength is in all of us."
